Country: Brazil                                                                                                           School:Colegio Ingles                                                                                        Committee: WHO                                                                                                       Delegate: Ian Tattersfield                                                                                                     Topic: Reducing child obesity

Today, 1 out of 3 children and teens in the U.S. is overweight and a huge number of families around the world are affected by childhood obesity. Those extra pounds put kids at risk of developing serious health problems, including diabetes, heart disease, and asthma. Childhood obesity also takes an emotional toll. Overweight and obese children are often teased and excluded from team activities, leading to low self-esteem, negative body image, and even depression. Childhood obesity is a serious medical condition that affects children and teenagers. It occurs when a child is well above the normal weight for his or her age, or height. Childhood obesity is particularly troubling because of the extra pounds often start children on the path to health problems that were once confined adults, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, con cholesterol.
Nearly half of Brazilians are overweightAround now overweight (46.6 per cent), up from 42.7 per cent in 2006, according to figures released by the Ministry of Health. Around of one in seven Brazilians are classed as obese (13.9 per cent) up from 11.4 per cent four years ago and still far lower than the rate of one in three (33.8 per cent) in the US.But Otaliba Libanio Neto, director of Brazil's Department of Health Analysis, said if the current rate of increase continued then Brazil's rate of obesity would match that of the US in 2022. They also showed that deaths caused by diabetes rose by 10 per cent between 1996 and 2007 as a result of the increasing number of people with weight problems. What Brazil will do is reduce the sugar and salt in all processed foods around the country specially the Sao Paolo since it is the worst city in Brazil.

One of the best ways to reduce child obesity would be to improve the diet and exercise of your family. You can also balance the calories your child consumes from foods and beverages with the calories your child uses through physical activity and normal growth. We can also do what the delegation of Brazil is doing  reducing the amount of sugar and also the amount of sodium chloride in food and beverages until this problem is reduced or better yet, solved.
